Document Type : Research Paper

Abstract
From the beginning, the ASEAN integration has faced different challenges. From late 1980’s, social, economic, political, organizational and international elements contributed positively to the integration process of this union. With the growth rate of %5/5 and inter-regional trade rate of %25, this region is among the most dynamic regions in the world. ASEAN has provided appropriate ground for integration. The most important output of ASEAN in its third phase of existence is drawing the vision for 2020. Under this document which was agreed in 1992, ASEAN is supposed to become a unified security, economic and social community. The present article aims to give a description of 42 years of ASEAN’s activity and to assess the future programs of this union.
