Evolution of Japan’s National Security Strategy ‎

Document Type : Research Paper

Abstract
Japan’s foreign policy after the Cold War is under redefinition. Due to both internal requirements as well as regional and international considerations, Japan is in an urgent need to review its foreign policy of the Cold War era. During the Cold War era, under the constitution and the security agreement with the United States, the Japanese government gave the duty of defending Japan against foreign invasion to the Unites States and managed merely the economic development of the country. Needless to say, the evolution in Japanese foreign policy will entail considerable implications in regional and global levels. Assessing this evolution and its characteristics will be of great benefit for regulating the foreign policy of other countries and better understanding of international relations and developments.
The present article aims to take a look to this issue from a realistic view in a world in which the aim of all powers in global scene is to maximize their power, national interest and security.
