The Reasons for the Increase in the Number of Non-Governmental ‎Organizations

Document Type : Research Paper

Abstract
Social scientists have studied NGO’s from different perspectives, but there are not much deep assessments on the cause of increase in this kind of phenomenon. Most of the analyses are focused on one dimension like the information revolution, growth of the middle class and reconstruction of democracy. The author aims to magnify the emergence of four crises and their contribution to the creation of these kinds of voluntary practices. In doing so, firstly two crises in the spheres of development and welfare-state and their impacts on creation of NGO’s will be studied. Then we will discuss the collapse of the Eastern Bloc and its implications for the appearance of these groups. Finally looking deeply to the demolition of the environment, the article will debate the public reactions to this trend and will claim that all these crises are the major factors in expansion of NGO’s.
