The Geo-Economy of Energy and its Security Impacts on Iran, ‎Pakistan and India

Document Type : Research Paper

Abstract
South and Southwest Asia are two regions which have been under geographical divisions by global powers for more than five decades and have been affected by changes in strategic ends of these powers. For some time these regions were merely affected by military aims and in other times economic aspects have shadowed their political destination. Due to the evolution in strategic patterns in 21st century, both the military as well as economic aspects will affect these regions. In these two regions, three countries, Iran, Pakistan and India are located at the center of strategies. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the changes in geopolitical borders of the cold war era and the alteration from geo-strategy to geo-economy, has placed these three countries at the center of two geo-economic spheres of the new century. Therefore, we will witness several developments in these countries in sense of selecting  regional and international strategic allies and the energy factor will serve as the cement of this geo-economic alliance. The role of trade, free zones and security of the energy transit routes will be the most critical factors in providing the security of these states.
