The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO): Concentration or Expansion?
Document Type : Research Paper
Abstract
During one and a half decades of existence of the Economic Cooperation Organization
(ECO), there has always been the question whether the aims of the organization enshrined in Treaty of Izmir will be best fulfilled by the expansion of the organization or by concentration and deepening it’s integration. This question once again is under focus from 2004. The organization is faced with paradoxical pressures from organizational dimension, subjects of cooperation and number of members.
The present article aims to analyze the current situation of this organization by reading the historical developments of the organization regarding this issue and reviewing the current theories on international organizations literature.
