Sarkozi’s European Policy: an Assessment of French Presidency of ‎the European Union

Document Type : Research Paper

Abstract
In a historical outlook, France as one of the most important powers in Europe has enjoyed a great deal of influence in shaping developments of this region. In line with continuity of this role, France has adopted Europeanism as one of the important pillars of its foreign policy. However, the relative decline in France’s European position after the Cold War era paved the way for re-thinking in some notions of France’s European policy. Sarkozi’s European policy is a symbol of this revision.
The present article aims to analyze this policy in light of recent French presidency of the European Union.
