Intergovernmental Mechanisms for Human Rights: The Arab League, the OIC and the Non-Aligned Movement
Document Type : Research Paper
Abstract
This article aims to study the possible grounds and potentials for further cooperation among Islamic countries for promotion of human rights and establishing regional and intergovernmental mechanisms for this aim. While the regional human rights systems in Europe, Africa and America are engaged in areas of promotion, enhancement, norm-setting, inspection and judicial hearing, the question is that in which area an Islamic regional human rights system could be more active and substantive. Assessment of support for new human rights mechanisms from the OIC or the Arab League is the other subject of this article. It also discusses the experience of Muslim countries in other regional systems of the human rights which could be applied in Inter-Islamic mechanisms.
