The Scotland Independence Referendum 2014: The British ‎Concerns

Document Type : Research Paper

Abstract
The referendum over Scotland independence or staying with the UK is due to be held on September 14, 2014. Three major British parties - the Conservatives, the Labor party and Liberals - are opposing the referendum. In case of vote to independence, the local government aims to revive the independent state of Scotland through developing social justice programs, competitive conditions and exploiting the energy resources of the North Sea. The British government is trying to magnify the political and economic risks of a future independent Scotland and provide the ground for keeping the status quo. This article suggests that the possible separation of Scotland could weaken the British position at national, regional and international levels, and the continuation of present situation is of great importance for London.
