What are the principles of the US Middle East nuclear strategy? Did Obama change Bush’s nuclear strategy toward the Middle East or follows the same approach in principle?
With the prevailing neo-conservative agenda in the Bush administration, the September 11 attacks significantly influenced the US nuclear strategy. Unfolding the nuclear capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the orchestrated allegations in this regard pushed this change a step forward. This resulted in a new pattern of US nuclear strategy in the Middle East. In this pattern, the non-nuclear states putting aside the enrichment of uranium would benefit from the conditional support of the US to have peaceful nuclear energy. In Obama administration this strategy continued with a different shape. This article aims to analyze the bases and principles of the US nuclear strategy and to track its continuity and change in the Obama administration’s policies.
