Document Type : Research Paper
Abstract
The strategy of return to Asia and Pacific in Obama administration is from one hand due to economic and military growth of China, and from other, a multi-layered policy rooted in the US economic, political and strategic considerations in the Asia-Pacific region. Adopting this strategy, the United States will increase its political, military and economic presence in the region and strengthen ties with regional allies, while managing its expanding relations with China. If looming China as an emerging power resulted in the strategic decision by Obama administration to return to Asia-Pacific, Japan is the key element for success of this strategy which aims to re-balance the equation in the region.
The present article reviews the economic and security status of Asia-Pacific for the United States and the role of Japan in Obama strategy.
