Foreign Policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran: an Outsider View

Document Type : Research Paper

Abstract
This is a fact that each player's perceptions of another player shape its behavior, treatment and policies toward that player. Accordingly, in international relations, one should be aware of other’s perception and position toward himself. This makes a state capable to plan a successful foreign policy, as it could foresee the actions and reactions of other states and players, and to customize and promote its foreign policy. The present article classifies the major groups surrounding the Islamic Republic of Iran in international system, as the West, the East and the Arab countries, and tries to have an assessment of their depiction of Iran's foreign policy. Though their views are diverse in some extent, this research indicates that the dominant perception within these players toward the I. R. Iran is hostile and threat-oriented.
