The European Union phenomenon could be interpreted as “Unity in Variety “based on the fact that this integrated community bears fragmentation and centrifugal inclinations and presents a various collection of political, social and cultural units. During half a century of existence, the European Union has been influenced by different trends and waves. These trends could be categorized at three different levels: The domestic level (national level within member states), regional level (the European level) and international level (world system). The current European Union is in fact a product of these three forces. Aiming at understanding the status of the European Union, its future role and its integration process, we need to emphasize the most important domestic and regional challenges and obstacles in front of it as well as international trends and players affecting this union. The present article aims to introduce the most important challenges of the European Union in domestic level and the role and influence of the United States on integration process of this union. Finally a more obvious image of the status of the EU and its prospect in international system will be achieved.  اتحادیه اروپایی بی‌تردید یکی از مهمترین و منسجم‌ترین مجموعه‌های سیاسی- اقتصادی جهان معاصر است که در طول عمر پنجاه ساله خود بتدریج گام‌های بلندی در راستای همگرایی همه‌جانبه و فراگیر و گسترش قلمرو جغرافیایی خود برداشته است. پدیده اتحادیه اروپایی را می‌توان «وحدت در عین کثرت» تعبیر نمود چرا که این مجموعه وحدت‌طلب و همگرا، در عین‌حال دارای گرایشات واگرایانه و گریز از مرکز بوده  و کلکسیونی متعدد، متنوع و متکثر در ابعاد مختلف سیاسی، اجتماعی و فرهنگی را به نمایش می‌‌گذارد. اتحادیه اروپایی بعنوان مهمترین الگوی همگرایی منطقه‌ای در جهان معاصر، در طول حیات نیم‌قرن اخیر خود تحت تأثیر جریانات و روندهای مختلف قرار داشته که اجمالاً می‌توان آنها را در سه سطح داخلی (سطح ملی و درون کشورهای عضو)، منطقه‌ای (در سطح اروپا) و سطح بین‌المللی (سیستم جهانی) تقسیم‌بندی نمود. اتحادیه اروپای کنونی در واقع محصول و برآیند این سه نیرو و جریان می‌باشد. لذا برای درک و فهم موقعیت کنونی اتحادیه و ادراک و استنباط چشم‌انداز آینده روند همگرایی در اتحادیه اروپا و جایگاه آینده آن در نظام بین‌الملل در حال تکامل و تکوین؛ لازم است به مهمترین موانع و چالش‌های درونی و منطقه‌ای فراروی این اتحادیه و مهمترین روندها و بازیگران مؤثر بر این اتحادیه (در سطح بین‌الملل) پرداخت. بر این اساس در این مقاله سعی شده تا به مهمترین چالش‌ها و مسائل این اتحادیه در بُعد داخلی و همچنین نقش و تأثیر آمریکا بر روند همگرایی و نسبت آن با اتحادیه اروپایی پرداخته شود تا تصویر دقیق‌تر و شفاف‌تری از موقعیت اتحادیه و چشم‌انداز فراروی آن در نظام بین‌الملل حاصل آید. https://fp.ipisjournals.ir/article_9673_41f6e8b589d6d47cc56937ff17c493f5.pdf
